• /Film Set Interview: ‘The Avengers’ Star Tom Hiddleston (Slash Film) - Tom Hiddleston talks about The Avengers, how it compares to Thor, his character Loki and what it's like working with such a big cast. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of him.
• Glenn Close: 'People like Albert Nobbs deserve to have their stories told' (The Guardian) - A bit late, but Glenn Close talks to The Guardian about Albert Nobbs, one of the best (and most underrated) movies I saw last year.
• The Woman in Black to haunt cinemas again in Susan Hill sequel (The Guardian) - YES! A sequel to The Woman in Black! Put me down for tickets right now!
• Exclusive: Dumb and Dumber 2 Begins Production This September (Coming Soon) - And you can count me in for the first official sequel to Dumb and Dumber too!
• Adam Sandler's 'Jack and Jill' sweeps the 2011 Razzie Awards (EW) - Well obviously, Jack and Jill made a clean sweep at the Razzie, except for the awards that it shared with Sandler's other movie last year, Just Go With It. I guess when you're not a Sandler fan, you really don't get it.

WEEKEND WATCHES

• Titanic 3D - In memory of the 100th anniversary of the tragedy, James Cameron has re-released the classic love story in 3D, in case you haven't heard yet.
• American Reunion - The American Pie cast reunites at their high school reunion to find that some things never change.

TRAILER OF THE WEEK: To Rome With Love

Woody Allen's Italian answer to Midnight in Paris in four vignettes with a steller ensemble cast.

REEL GREAT READS

• 33 Things You Didn't Know About The Movie "Titanic" (BuzzFeed) - Ridiculous as they may seem, we assume they're true. They are, right?
• Great Mythological Movie Beasts (IGN) - For the sci-fi nerds like myself, a reminder of some of the coolest mythological monsters from some of our favourite films (and even some that sucked, ahem, The Clash of the Titans remake).
• Multiple New Child's Play Movies? (IGN) - Good news for those of you who couldn't get through the campiness of the original Child's Play (I sure couldn't), with rumours of a (hopefully less campy) remake and spin-off. Though really, how can you take a murderous little doll seriously.
• 50 Most Shocking Movie Deaths Of All Time (Total Film) - Warning: Kinda gross and sadistic. But it also includes some legitimately shocking, non-gory, narratively significant deaths.

WEEKEND WATCHES

• The Hunger Games - Because guess what, Mirror, Mirror doesn't look so great, and after the disappointment of The Clash of the Titans, I'm not going to suggest The Wrath of the Titans. Plus, besides the few of us who haven't seen it yet, I'm sure some of you would love to re-watch it.

TRAILER OF THE WEEK: Can I pick four? Let's go with House at the End of the Street for now.

Newest It-girl Jennifer Lawrence stars in the seemingly-backwards psychological thriller-horror.

And the Oscar Didn't Go to ... Good Will Hunting

The Academy Awards are coming up this Sunday. While we're excited to enter multiple pools and prep themed food with our families, we're also kind of depressed about the whole thing because we're really disappointed with the nominees. (No Gosling = No Go!) And we know we'll be even more disappointed with the winners. Because, well, it's happened plenty of times before ...

THE YEAR: 1998


THE OTHER NOMINEES:

• As Good As It Gets
• The Full Monty
• L.A. Confidential
• Titanic

THE WINNER: I'll give you one good guess. Titanic. You know, the one with the ship.


WHY IT (PROBABLY) DIDN'T WIN: Need I remind you of the competition? Titanic is one of the most epic romances of all time (though maybe not one of my personal favourites) and to this day is still highly praised for its stunning visuals. It was the highest-grossing film ever at the time (only until James Cameron would surpass himself with Avatar). Plus, who'd really heard of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck?


WHY IT SHOULD HAVE: It was beautifully written by two yet-unknown film stars waiting to break out who showed off that they could also act. It's got some of the best one-liners, with one of my favourite soundtracks of all-time (mostly song-writing genius Elliott Smith), brilliant acting from nearly everyone, and it's completely inspiring in not-at-all cheesy way. It's entertaining, charming and it makes you feel really uncomfortable before making you feel so much better. That's not to say that of all the movies nominated that year that I didn't like the one about the ship, but this one was so much more relatable, especially for young people who are bitter, confused or lost and need a subtle reminder that things can work themselves out.

REEL GREAT READS

•  The Ship of Fools (Roger Ebert's Journal) - One of all-time favourite male movie critics, uh, ships one of our (or, at least Emily's) favourite sick day/Sunday/everyday movies, the Celine Dion soundtrack-set epicness that is Titanic. (Don't tell me I'm the only one anxiously anticipating the 3D release!)
• Inside the all-black (almost!) reading of 'Reservoir Dogs' (EW) Jason Reitman keeps staging these awesome-sounding, star-studded cold readings of classic screenplays (see also: The Princess Bride, The Breakfast Club). But we're particularly intrigued by this one, which changes up the race of the cast of Tarantino's ultra-violent first opus, subbing in Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Laurence Fishburne for Michael Madsen, Tim Roth and  Harvey Keitel.
